Habe das Buch gekauft weil ich Mythbusters (und natürlich auch Kari Byron)-Fan bin. Kari erzählt äußerst kurzweilig ihre Lebensgeschichte und spart auch ernstere Themen nicht aus. Zudem nimmt sie kein Blatt vor den Mund und ist auch selbstkritisch. Das Buch ist natürlich auf Englisch, aber leicht zu verstehen, wenn man einigermaßen des Englischen mächtig ist. Habe mit vor ein paar Monaten "Backwards and in Heels" von Alicia Malone geholt. Wer dieses Buch lesen konnte, wird mit "Crash Test Girl" auch keine Probleme haben.

This is an upbeat, fun book, full of practical wisdom and good advice. In fact, I've given two copies to high school seniors, who I think will find Kari's optimistic view of life and opportunities to be a help as they confront the next stage of their lives. (As she puts it: going from "crash test girl" to "road-tested woman"). I should disclose that Kari was a high school classmate of one of our daughters; in fact, I first found out about the book a few months ago when Kari and other members of their group convened at our house for one of their yearly get-togethers. The fact that these school friends still re-unite 25 years later and still like each other says a lot about their characters. It's fun and gratifying as a parent to observe the various paths they have followed. Kari's is certainly one of the more unusual, and it's really delightful that she has been able to put some of her wit and charm into book form for the benefit of all of us. Highly recommended.
This is a great read with lots of life lessons plus some very interesting insights to MythBusters, the tv program that Kari worked on for so many years. After finishing her book, I realized she is an amazing woman in so many respects. With no technical background (she's an artist), she educated herself in science and engineering to keep up with the others on that show, far exceeding what might have been expected of her. She is a great role model, especially for young women. In her book, she provides prodigious advice about coping with the trials of life and love and I believe every youngster, especially the young ladies, should receive it as a gift from their parents, grandparents, or friends. Science teachers should also take note and recommend it to their students. I hope this is just the start of Kari's literary career. She has some important things to say!
I read the book cover to cover in one weekend. It's the type of book that's fascinating, insightful, funny and a total page-turner. Kari is an incredible writer and story teller and I honestly can't tell you how much I loved this book. She's lived a fascinating life and has gained a lot of wisdom worth sharing along the way.The way she breaks up the book is so creative - you never get tired of reading. I loved the drawings throughout, the behind the scenes images, and the way she framed her live through the scientific method. At one point my husband looked over at me and asked "how are you almost done with that book already?" (I'm typically not a fast reader) I simply responded "It's so good!"Buy this for anyone who is a Kari Byron fan, they won't be disappointed. Buy this for creative, curious people in your life who are chasing after a dream - they'll draw inspiration and practical advice from this read. But ESPECIALLY buy this for women in your life because this touched my woman in STEM soul and every woman in STEM should have this.Is it too soon to ask for the next book?
Byron is, as one would hope, a far more interesting person than the glimpses we got over the years in Mythbusters. She is complex, chaotic, and in her own way, glorious. As much about self-help and finding a way as it is a biography, the book is chaotic, honest, and doesn't pull its punches.If you loved MB, and its cast, you'll appreciate the book, the plethora of behind the scenes stories and moments, and Kari's remarkably gung-ho life.I thoroughly enjoyed it.
It was enjoyable and Kari is very honest about herself, but she doesn't talk much about her fellow Mythbuster cast. I would like to have known more about her interactions with Grant, Tori, Jamie and Adam. You can see that she is a nice person as she doesn't want to say anything bad about anyone, but that kindness of hers kind of makes you feel like a lot of things are purposefully left out of the book.
